Our world appears to be divided into the “haves” and the “have-nots.” However, in the only areas that matter, we are all on even terrain. There is a desire within us to be special. We want to be the teacher’s pet, our parent’s favorite, or the most acclaimed in our field. In the heart of The Divine, all are equal. All have the same access to Divine love, power, and forgiveness. The Divine has no favorites because The Divine loves everyone equally and unconditionally.
Religions have been built and sustained on the concept of a god who plays favorites. “We are the chosen people,” some claim. The only problem remains, if The Divine chooses one people or nation above another, then those who are not chosen are un-chosen. A god who is selective in choosing will be selective in who He (or She) decides to love. A god who withholds love is not a god of love. There are no half-way measures with love. What about forgiveness? If we are not one of god’s chosen, then how can we be assured that god will forgive us? A god who withholds love and forgiveness is a god who has favorites and declares some people are special while others are not. I refuse to believe in a god of favoritism. I believe that I am special in the sight of The Divine but no more special than anyone else. We all come before The Divine on even terrain. The same is true when it comes to miracles. Everyone has an equal right to miracles.
